Tonight there are two events keeping the Dissection Room at Summerhall jumping until the early hours.

First up is Randolph’s Leap & Martha Ffion live from 7pm.

Randolph’s Leap are a Glasgow-based musical project ranging from a solo act to an 8-piece band. They write pop music for unpopular people and specialise in creating a joyous, brass-tinged folk-pop racket centred around the self-deprecating, humorous and heart-warming songwriting of Adam Ross.

The band released their debut album ‘Clumsy Knot’ in April 2014 via Lost Map Records and garnered much critical praise:

The band have won over many new fans thanks to their festival appearances at T in the Park, Celtic Connections, Wickerman and Green Man. Tickets £10

And following the gig the next instalment of club night Rhythm Machine returns for its December duties from 11pm. Soulsville & Nothing Ever Happens Here present Rhythm Machine, Summerhall’s first monthly club night. Inspired by the “Art Party” format of Andy Warhol’s Factory openings as well as the raw creative energy of CBGBs, the spiritual home of Patti Smith & David Byrne, Rhythm Machine puts Live Art & Conceptual Installation work side by side with eclectic, blissful dance music & sweet party vibes.

Featuring Tom Tom Heavy Electronic Funk, Nigerian Synth Boogie & Downtown New Wave Disco from DJ Yves, Stanley Kublick & Mr Masezo.

Also featuring Live Art & Installations from Timothy Davey & Charles Myatt & Visuals from Deep Within The Concrete Jungle this is the best way to start your December clubbing calendar

Tickets only £5.

Small-Business-Saturday-UK-2015-White-375Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.

The day itself takes place on the first shopping Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses. In 2015 Small Business Saturday will take place tomorrow Saturday, December 5th. Look out for updates on Twitter and Facebook about the businesses in Edinburgh who are taking part.

From 8 December Holyrood Boxing Gym are organising a Christmas food bank collection in collaboration with the Trussell Trust.

S5-6 pupils from Boroughmuir High School pupils will have the opportunity take part in a House of Lords debate on the issue of greater diversity in Parliament this afternoon.  They are the only Scottish school invited to participate.

The English Speaking Union looked for interested and motivated senior Boroughmuir pupils prepared to travel to London in the morning, tour the Palace of Westminster, and then take part in a debate in the House of Lords Chamber.

We hope to have some photos of them after the event!

TramMobilityScooter 9

Transport for Edinburgh is at last going to hold a trial for mobility scooters on trams.

The pilot scheme is a first in Scotland and will run in two parts; firstly inviting potential candidates to sign up to the scheme by applying for a permit, secondly inviting successful applicants to take their mobility vehicles on board.

Anyone who holds a valid Scottish National Entitlement Card (SNEC) or a Disabled Person’s Blue Badge parking permit is invited to apply to the scheme by either visiting the dedicated web page edinburghtrams.com/access or in-store at any of Transport for Edinburgh’s Travelshops (Waverley Bridge is the most accessible Travelshop).

Applicants will each have their mobility scooters assessed to make sure it fits the specified criteria and those approved will be issued with a trial permit within 10 working days.

These permits, which will take the form of a pass, can then be used in the second phase of the trial starting on 1 January 2016.

Ian Craig, Chief Executive at Transport for Edinburgh, said: “Transport for Edinburgh has been working hard to make sure this trial is able to support as wide a range of mobility vehicle users as possible and we look forward to welcoming customers on board.

“To make sure passengers in Edinburgh receive the best possible service, we have drawn on the experiences of other UK tram providers who have already trialled this system and feel confident we are offering the best approach.

“I would encourage anyone who wishes to try out this service to get their applications in as soon as possible to ensure they have plenty of time to make use of these special circumstances.”

The application phase is now open and will remain so over the course of the trial. Approved passengers will then be able to take their mobility vehicles on board from 1 January 2016 for an initial period of three months concluding on 31 March 2016.

John Ballantine, member at Edinburgh Access Panel, was involved in the consultation process ahead of the trial. He said: “Edinburgh Access Panel is delighted the carriage of mobility scooters on Edinburgh Trams is to be given a trial. We were pleased to be involved in the consultation regarding setting up the trial and are looking forward to mobility scooter users being able to take advantage of the tram to help them get around the city.”

The trial is initially being rolled out across the Edinburgh Tram network, meanwhile research and investigations into whether it may be extended for Lothian Buses are ongoing. Currently the variation in bus vehicle types and sizes means there may be increased limitations in what can be offered to passengers.
