Kenny MacAskill,  former Cabinet Secretary for Justice in the Scottish Government, Chair of Hibernian Supporters Ltd and MSP for the Easter Road stadium visited the Hibernian Training Centre  on Monday to discuss the relevance  of  politics to the every day lives of young people.

The Development Squad’s Education and Welfare Officer, Seán McPartlin, said that the visit had been very successful.

“All the Development Squad are undertaking a Modern Apprenticeship Course which will lead to a qualification. It focuses largely on their footballing skills and training issues. The other part of their education programme will contribute towards their “Preparation for Work” qualification.

“We are taking them through a curriculum similar to Personal and Social Development in 6th Year at school, encouraging them to reflect on issues outside of their football career, and providing information which will help them make informed life choices – as is the need for all young people of their age.

“We’ve had sessions on  financial matters and on the use of social media. First team players and coaching staff have held “question and answer sessions” with the lads, and they are about to receive an introductory course on coaching those with disabilities.”
