A team from FanDuel, the pioneer and global leader in daily fantasy sports, will be joining members of the tech and business sectors at the UK’s largest sleep out this weekend, to raise money for vulnerable young people.

The team of four will be participating in Byte Night 2015 at Edinburgh’s Charlotte Square tonight, in support of 80,000 young people that are homeless in the UK. The sleep out event takes place at several locations across the country and is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Action for Children, a charity that provides a variety of services to vulnerable children, young people and their families.

As part of its fundraising efforts, FanDuel has also entered a team of 15 into The Great Scottish Run 10k race in Glasgow on Sunday 4 October and is hosting various internal activities at its offices in Quartermile One, including a bake-off competition and a table tennis tournament.

Eileen McLaren, a Byte Night board member and Director of Software Development at FanDuel, said: “FanDuel is proud to support Byte Night, it’s a fantastic event that raises awareness of the plight of vulnerable young people who rely on the support of Action for Children.

“Whilst I’m sure there will be plenty of camaraderie and a great atmosphere on the night, it will also be a great opportunity to hear some inspiring stories from some of the young people who have benefited from Action for Children’s services – reminding us all just how important these fundraising activities are.”

In 2014, more than 1,300 people across the UK participated in Byte Night, raising over £1.1 million.

Wester Hailes Fun Palace is coming to Wester Hailes this weekend. In collaboration with scientists and students from Edinburgh Napier University, and WHALE Arts, Wester Hailes Fun Palace has been created by our local community and includes fun events where science and art collide including DNA necklaces, lava lamps, snake charming, rubber egg art, elephant toothpaste and Caravan Obscura. This is all happening as part of Fun Palaces 2015, a free, nationwide celebration of arts and sciences in the community.

Based on a never-built idea from theatre director Joan Littlewood and architect Cedric Price, the first Fun Palaces took place in the UK and worldwide in October 2014, when 138 venues, locations, communities and groups created their own local events. Over 3000 people took part in organising these events, many of them as volunteers, and approximately 40,000 people attended Fun Palaces in person, while tens of thousands more engaged with them online.

Fun Palaces are about working with and from our own communities, creating events that bring together arts and sciences – but above all PEOPLE – to work together, create together, have FUN together, and in doing so, build our own communities, from the grassroots up.

Dr Clare Taylor, Edinburgh Napier University said: “You are invited to join us to unleash your scientific and creative talent because at a Fun Palace, everyone is a scientist and everyone is an artist!”
