Art studios in the Abbeyhill area are opening their doors this weekend (12 and 13 September) to give the public a chance to access spaces which aren’t regularly open and meet the artists selling their work.
The project is part of LeithLate15 and funded by the City of Edinburgh Council.
The following studios will be open from 12-6pm each day
Wasps Albion Road Studios, 78 Albion Road
Process Studios, Abbeymount Techbase, 2 Easter Road
St Margaret’s House, 151 London Road
The ‘Open Studios’ weekend also coincides with another annual festival, The Colony of Artists, where artists exhibit their work across households in the Abbeyhill Colonies.
Cllr Frank Ross, Convener of the Economy Committee, said: “This is a great opportunity for residents and visitors to meet the talented artists working in this area. We are supporting this project as part of our ‘Building Stronger Town Centres’ programme. We are committed to the economic growth of Leith, Easter Road and the wider Abbeyhill area, which includes nurturing it as a creative hub. I would encourage anyone interested to pick up a map and enjoy a cultural day out.”
Morvern Cunningham of LeithLate, said: “It’s great to be able to present an expanded Open Studios event with three venues and over 100 artists taking part. The recently published Leith Economic Framework acknowledged the need to support the creative industries in Leith, and we believe that the combined efforts of these three creative hubs will go some way in highlighting the vast amount of cultural activity taking place across the Leith area.”
