Police in East Lothian haveĀ confirmed that they have arrested and charged a 40 year-old man in connection with a spate of robberies, which have occurred over the last two months in the Musselburgh area.

These incidents started on Saturday October 4 and the last one occurred last night (Thursday, December 4) nearby the Brunton Theatre.

Police officers from the dedicatedĀ Operation FormbyĀ Ā teamĀ arrested the man thisĀ morning (Friday, December 5)Ā at an address in the Musselburgh area.

He will be charged in connection with seven incidents in total and will appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday (December 8).

Inspector Andrew Harborow said:Ā  ā€œWe would like to thank the public for theirĀ  high level of engagementĀ and supportĀ , which has played a significant part in the arrest of this man. Whilst this man has been caught, we will continue to deploy additional resources to Musselburgh over the coming daysĀ .

ā€œI would likeĀ to reassure the community that East Lothian remainsĀ  a safe place, but would also advise people to take care of their belongingsĀ and remain vigilantĀ , especially during the festive season.
