Edinburgh’s Wozniak have taken inspiration from all over the world to craft their new EP, Pikes Peak which is released today.
Available from Morningside Young Team Records on CD and download, the EP is named for a mountain near Colorado Springs in the US and features tracks inspired by Barcelona, Berlin and Japan.
A video for lead track ‘El Maresme’ was released earlier this week and you can watch here
Wozniak say that these inter-continental inspirations reflect wide musical horizons and a tendency to create tunes that edge towards epic.
The band say: “Although not to the naked eye, Wozniak are quite extreme. We like huge sounds – with volume, distortion, reverb and delay.”
The title was chosen by a US-based contributor to the successful Kickstarter campaign which largely funded the record.
Recorded at The Depot in Edinburgh by Broken Records’ Craig Ross, the full track listing is:
-
El Maresme: woozy reverb and vocals evoke a heat-hazy Barcelona.
-
Paper Hat: intertwining melodies and compelling rhythm, like a night-time drive in Osaka.
-
Kreuzberg: hypnotic layers of guitar, distorted bass and driving drums, straight off the U-Bahn.
-
Columbo’s Car: cosmic fuzz-filled psych odyssey.
-
Gesamtkunstwerk: eerie, emotional and abstract beauty.
Four piece Wozniak formed in 2012. This is the band’s second release, following the well-received double-A side single MFMB/New Hampshire issued in November 2013.
A special single edit of the EP’s lead track, El Maresme, is available to stream and download now at www.wozniak.bandcamp.com.
The EP Launch gig will be held on 28 June at Opium, Edinburgh
