TER Hamilton and Inches George St 10

Police in Edinburgh are issuing a further appeal for information following Friday’s high-value armed robbery at a city centre jewellery store.

Three men dressed in dark clothing entered the Hamilton and Inches shop on George Street at around 11.30am and threatened staff with various bladed weapons.

The trio then smashed a number of display cabinets before making off with a significant quantity of jewellery.

All of the suspects were then seen entering a white BMW car, which was recovered a short time later in Gloucester Lane.

The men abandoned the vehicle before getting into a medium to large sized dark-coloured car that was last seen heading towards Stockbridge.

Anyone who can assist officers with their ongoing investigation is asked to contact police immediately.

A full inventory of the stolen items is currently being carried out. However, it is estimated that over one million pounds worth of goods were stolen.

Detective Inspector Craig Finnie said: “Staff were left extremely shaken and a major investigation is underway to trace those responsible.’

“While we remain keen to speak with witnesses who were in the George Street area at the time of the robbery, we also wish to trace anyone who remembers seeing both getaway vehicles in the Gloucester Lane area before or after the crime was committed.

“Furthermore, anyone with any further information relevant to this enquiry is also asked to contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
