Edinburgh Bus Tours is offering one lucky 11-14 year old the chance to develop their very own tour of Edinburgh as part of charity Kids In Museums Takeover Day Scotland, Thursday 28 November 2013.
Budding tour guides will be asked to explain in 500 words what they would include in a tour of their city to win the chance to a guide for the day. Edinburgh Bus Tours’ expert team will select the young guide based on their enthusiasm and passion for Scotland’s capital.
Kids In Museums Takeover Day Scotland is here north of the border for the first time, supported by Museums Galleries Scotland, following a successful three years involving thousands of children and young people in England and Wales. The day celebrates their contribution in museums, galleries and historic homes and allows them to take part in different jobs on the day. Takeover Day activities in Edinburgh include city guides written by primary school children, and young people delivering interactive science shows at the National Museum of Scotland.
The selected guide will be supported by Edinburgh Bus Tours in developing their own commentary for the five star attraction’s green Edinburgh Tour, taking in sites including Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, and Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns.
The budding tour guide will be invited to welcome their classmates on board their unique Takeover Day tour.
Celebrity children’s author, Damian Dibben, Takeover Day Ambassador and Kids in Museums Patron, said: ‘‘I’m proud to be the first Takeover Day Ambassador. My History Keepers books are all about kids being put in control and saving the world, so I really believe, if you put young people in charge, all sorts of incredible things happen – including on bus tours!”
