Some of you will already have discovered the Edinburgh Worst Drivers Facebook page. We really like the way it exposes some of the bad driving that we ourselves observe around the city streets.

We asked the anonymous Edinburgh resident behind the photos and chat to write us an exclusive guest article – on the subject of driving of course!

When you get caught speeding or on that mobile phone, does the 3 points and £60 fine really make you say to yourself :-“I’m sure as hell not going to do that again.”
I think you’ll be saying to yourself :-“I’m not going to get caught again.”
Thing  is everyone gets caught eventually!
This is why I decided to start naming and shaming Edinburgh’s Worst Drivers. I think the embarassment of seeing your car badly driven / parked on the internet is a good way of discouraging bad driver behaviours.
I also believe just points & fines for offences is not the answer. I’m not suggesting cutting the amount of money the government gains from each offence but simply redressing it.
How about 3 points, £40 fine and a requirement to sit a refresher type theory test (required to pay a nominal fee £20) and must be passed within 60 days. Failure to do this will result in points being doubled!
Non-compliant drivers will reach 12 points faster and receive a 6 month ban. Drivers should then be required to re-sit their driving test before their full license is reinstated.
Surely a perfect opportunity to ensure driver knowledge and training is current and more likely to be adhered to?
I’m interested in your thoughts so please leave your comments below….
