Carols for Christmas to begin the festive season

TOP Scottish celebrities will turn out to enjoy a special festive Carols for Christmas concert to raise funds for the Sick Kids Friends Foundation (SKFF).

The concert will be held on Tuesday 11 December 2012 in the Parish Church of St Cuthbert, on Lothian Road, Edinburgh, from 6:30-8:30pm and tickets are priced at £15.

The charity’s fifteenth annual carol service will spread festive cheer in the capital with special appearances from well-known Scottish personalities and some of the children receiving treatment at the hospital.

Stars of the evening include actresses Jennifer Black, Una McLean and Siobhan Redmond alongside MSP Margo MacDonald and the Lord Provost – more celebrities will be announced soon.

The Edinburgh Academy Chamber Choir will be joined by the Dalkeith and Monktonhall Brass Band to provide much-loved Christmas music. Some of the young patients from the hospital will perform readings of their own writing, produced sessions with the Sick Kids Friends Foundation Creative writer, Linda Cracknell.

This will be followed by mince pies and a glass of wine.

Maureen Harrison, Chief Executive of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, said: “We have been organising Carols for Christmas events for more than a decade and we look forward it immensely each year.

“Not only does this event raise much needed funds for us but it also lets us celebrate the most special holiday on a child’s calendar.

“The concert will raise funds to help us continue to provide services outwith NHS provisions including the last few thousand pounds required for the purchase of the new Ultrasound scanners which will help thousands of children attending the hospital.”
