Tuesday night saw Glasgow band Sixth Avenue Traffic play Whistlebinkies in Niddry Street during this years Edinburgh Festival Fringe and played a storming set.
I first saw the band play back in March when they competed in Hard Rock Cafe’s Hard Rock Rising competition and played just two songs, but last night was the first proper full set they had ever played in Edinburgh and what a set it was! Played in front of an appreciative decent-sized audience, I noticed in this concert a massive positive difference in the band since I last saw them play back in March .
Having just released their first E.P. entitled Whisper, Smile and Wave the band are on a mini-tour promoting the E.P and warming up for some dates later in the year.
The set-list from the show featured some great tunes such as Tear The Columns, Ever-Changing Light and The Haunting Demons (a song which my Katy Perry/Rhianna/Lady Gaga loving friend Andi totally adores, and indeed had him singing along which surprised myself and others around me who know him well!)
The crowd who had gathered whistled, cheered, whooped and clapped along all the way through the set, and, all in all, added to a terrific atmosphere in the venue. I think people were pleasantly surprised by the songs that this band were playing for them .
It was indeed a great night and people chatted to the band after and commented on how muuch they had enjoyed the evening. One cheeky lad from Australia tried to poach lead singer Chris Thomson for a band he knows that are looking for a singer in his home country. Chris obviously refused the kind offer, though there was a lot of mirth shared.
If you get the chance to catch Sixth Avenue do so you won’t regret it.
After the band had finished i caught up with them for a quick chat and asked them how they felt about the gig, the E.P launch and other things.

Saw the band play earlier this month in the Classic Grand where they played a great set and were supported by other great artists.
They are a band with great promise, I just hope they get the exposure needed to make the breakthrough
