Can two hosts survive an entire 24 hours of live radio? Find out as Fresh Fringe 2012 attempts a 24 hour challenge in aid of Edinburgh charity, Waverley Care starting tomorrow morning at 10a.m. Broadcasting live from the Pleasance Courtyard at the heart of the Fringe, Fresh Fringe will make the most of the unique creativity provided by a student-run radio station as festival manager, Christian Illingworth, and assistant manager, Finlay Niven, present bands, guests, games, features and competitions over the course of the day, all in aid of charity.

Highlights will include a competitive, social media frenzied ‘Scavenger Hunt’ against Pure Gym which sprawls across the city of Edinburgh, live performances from special guests such as Michael Winslow and world-renowned guitar player Antonio Forcione, plus some HUGE Fringe stars whose identities are being kept secret for now, plus some surprise challenges for the brave presenters. Throughout the programme, money will be raised via text donations, a Just-Giving page and fund-raisers from the scavenger hunt teams making their way around Edinburgh. A full programme will be released closer to the time on www.freshair.org.uk.

Fresh Fringe replaces FreshAir.org.uk, Edinburgh’s student radio station, for the month of August. Fresh Air is an entirely student-run, non-profit radio station broadcasting throughout the year and has a string of awards to its name, most recently beating ten commercial stations including Capital FM to the “Best Radio Station” award at the 2011 Scottish New Music Awards. Fresh Air therefore provides an exciting platform in August when Fresh Fringe becomes the radio station of the festival, hosting a range of exciting guests, features and interviews as well as a number of live music and clubbing events.

Christian Illingworth said:-“This is a rare opportunity to combine the creativity of student radio with the cultural richness of the Fringe whilst raising money for an excellent cause at the same time. Everyone at Fresh Fringe is very excited.”

To donate to the cause, please visit http://www.justgiving.com/freshfringe or text FRSH 99 followed by the amount you wish to donate to 70700, and listen in between 10am on 22nd – 10am on 23 August 2012 by visiting www.freshair.org.uk.
