The Olympic Torch set off today from Festival Square in Edinburgh. It was carried by Raquel Matos (16) on its route towards the castle and the Scottish parliament. There was a good crowd to see it depart and many spontaneously broke into a run to keep up with it.

Speaking to one of the police officers who run with the torch, she described it as one of the best jobs in the world. The officers run collectively 30 miles per day but take it in turns so that they do not have to run a marathon per day! She said that they were already very fit and were looking forward to today.
