Bill Cook is standing as Labour candidate for Liberton/Gilmerton Ward.
Cook was first elected to The City of Edinburgh Council in September 2010. In June 2011 he took on the portfolio for Community Safety. He is a member of Lothian and Borders Police Board.
Bill is 57 years of age and is married to Elaine. He was born and brought up in the Inch, and he attended the Inch Primary and Liberton Secondary. He raised his sons David and Richard in Alnwickhill. Both were educated at Gracemount Primary and High schools. David is a teacher and Richard works in the Scottish Parliament.
Bill is currently on a career break from Selex Galileo where is employed as a Chief Engineer. A qualified Chartered Engineer he started in Ferranti as an electronics technician apprentice forty years ago. He has held various roles including Chief Hardware Design Engineer and the UK Head Of Hardware Engineering. He has extensive experience in the design and development of avionics and associated systems. He holds a Masters Degree in Computing and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
Bill enjoys reading about Scotland’s social history, listening to music and cycling. Prior to his election he was working his way through a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
