Putting that extra sparkle into spring, Jane Gowans whipped Edinburgh’s fashionistas into a frenzy as she launched her new jewellery Collection at the ‘Black Box’ boutique this weekend.
Pushing the boundaries of design with her signature style, Jane combines cutting edge technology with traditional craft practice resulting in simple, stylish pieces that seduce male and female audiences alike. Inspired by texture and form, the aptly titled ‘Geology rocks’ range incorporates the naturally occurring facets and structures found in rock forms, with a high-end fashion aesthetic. Available in 18ct Gold Vermeil or Oxidised Black colour ways, these sterling silver pieces are perfect for those looking to replace their diamonds with this season’s hottest rock of choice.
Taking inspiration from natural wonders such as The Giants Causeway in Antrim, Northern Ireland, Jane spoke of her delight at seeing her final designs on display:-
“I’m really excited about the launch of the ‘Geology rocks’ collection, it’s been a long time in the making and the response has been great, I’m delighted.”
The Dundee-based jewellery designer graduated in 2009 with a First Class Honours Degree in Jewellery & Metal Design and has since set up her own practice, which has gone from strength to strength. Working from her studio Jane embraces an experimental creative approach which engages new processes while embodying a never-ending fascination with making the ordinary extraordinary. Her dedication and passion to her craft has earned the jeweller accolades from both the fashion industry and the world of celebrity, with Scotland’s own Emeli Sande sporting a pair of Jane’s ‘Betty’ earrings on the cover of her debut album ‘Our version of events’.
Following the her short listings in the EC One Unsigned Award and Professional Jeweller Magazine’s Treasure Competition 2011, Jane is rapidly becoming one to watch in the jewellery world and an exciting addition to Edinburgh’s self-styled ‘curious design boutique’.
Priding itself on showcasing the best of Britain’s unique and distinctive designers, Black box’s alternative display philosophy makes it the ideal location for the launch of such innovative and striking designs.
Based in the heart of the buzzing Grassmarket, the boutique is also home to an in-house jewellery studio & workshop, where you can see Black Box’s jewellers working on their latest collections.
Hannah and Sarah, the managers and in-house designers at ‘Black Box’, have both known Jane since university and are thrilled to have their former classmates spring/summer range on display;
“We’re so excited about the launch; Jane’s work has always been so conceptual and edgy while staying bang on trend. We always planned to work together so it’s lovely to finally see it happening.”
