A transport probe has found that a proposed tram route through Edinburgh city centre clashes with more than 1100 pipes and cables.

The issues were discovered during a series of tests of the 1.3 mile section of the route between the city’s Haymarket and St Andrew Square.

Designers will now have to revise the proposed line and tram workers will be forced to move dozens of water, gas and electricity mains, as well as overhead cables along the route.
