The Cameo’s Screen Arts Festival started last Friday (29th July) and continues this month until the 11th. Highlights include a screening of Atlantic Productions’ breathtaking CGI documentary FLYING MONSTERS, complete with a live satellite Q&A with Sir David Attenborough; a restored film of the classic 1966 production of Tchaikovsky’s SWAN LAKE, featuring the legendary partnership of Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn; and a live transmission of Verdi’s opera NABUCCO from the stunning Teatro Antico Taormina in Sicily.

Edinburgh New Town Cookery School begin a children’s two day cookery course starts today. They will be taught cooking skills using the best seasonal ingredients, cooking dishes that they can easily recreate at home. The children will be taught, and encouraged, to clear up and wash up as they go – something that every parent will appreciate! They will cook a simple lunch and they will take some of their cooked treats home. The hours are from 10.30 am until 3 pm.

“Following on from our recent announcement that Ed Byrne will be the host of the Big Comedy Gala in Aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, we are delighted to announce the addition of Fred Macaulay (BBC Radio Scotland DJ, Mock the Week, etc) Rich Fulcher (of Mighty Boosh fame) and Frisky and Mannish (pop musical cabaret duo seen who have stormed the Fringe in recent years(Radio1 Breakfast show).

Last year the sun was out and over 100 performers lined a mile of Portobello Promenade to entertain over a thousand people for The Portobello Big Beach Busk. Aiming for another mile of uninterrupted music, the organisers welcome musicians, jugglers, statues or robots, to sign up and come down to the beach at 12 noon. All kinds of performers are welcome throughout the event and it’s suitable for all the family. Let’s hope the sun is shining!
