The Low Country Blues Tour
As a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and in his own solo career, Allman has long been a gifted natural interpreter of the blues. His soulful and distinctive voice is one of the defining sounds in the history of American music. Low Country Blues finds him putting his own stamp on songs by some of the blues giants whose work has long informed his own, from Muddy Waters and BB King to Buddy Guy and Magic Sam.
This is Gregg Allman at his very best – a self-assured, spirited collection that will stand as a major milestone in what is undeniably an exceptional career.
Low Country Blues is out now on Rounder Records.
Tift Merritt supports Gregg Allman and she has produced an impressive body of work and earned a passionate, dedicated audience.
Live performances are riveting and albums include 2002’s debut Bramble Rose, 2005’s Grammy nominated Tambourine and 2008’s Another Country. Her new album, See You On The Moon was released on 25 May. Tickets £25/£20/£10 from The Usher Hall website

Freaks (12)
Date: 25/07/2011
Time: 20:40
Location: Filmhouse – Edinburgh
Famously, MGM virtually disowned Browning’s masterpiece, so that it remained unseen here until the 60s. That’s testament, surely, both to its sheer dramatic power and to the material itself: a group of circus ‘freaks’ decide to exact revenge on a trapeze artist and her strongman lover who have been plotting together against one of their number, a relatively wealthy midget infatuated with the acrobat.
Browning’s unsentimental sympathies for both his cast and the characters they play are immediately evident in his matter-of-fact, non-voyeuristic depiction of their lives and in the story’s celebration of their strong sense of solidarity. The film combines moral outrage with cinematic expertise to brilliant effect. A genuine one-off, and quite unforgettable.
