On Sunday at 1.18pm. the RNLI Queensferry Lifeboat was called out after a lone sailor aboard his yacht “Puffin” from Blackness had fallen overboard in Firth of Forth off Crombie in Fife.
The sailor, Jim Halliday from Avonbridge, had fallen overboard from his yacht and although was wearing a lifejacket and had a safety line to his yacht could not manage to get himself back on board.
The tug “Beamer” was in the area and took the sailor on board and called the Coastguard, who contacted the RNLI Queensfery Lifeboat Station. The Lifeboat crew launched the lifeboat and quickly located the tug “Beamer”. They took the casualty aboard the Lifeboat and rushed him to Blackness where an ambulance waited to take him to Stirling Infirmary to be checked over. Mr Halliday had been in the water for an hour.
The Lifeboat returned to take his yacht in tow and safely berthed her at Port Edgar Marina. The good news from the hospital was that Mr. Halliday was none the worse for his experience.
