The following new non-executive member has been appointed to the NHS National Services Scotland Board:
Mr Robert Wilson, an MA and MBA graduate of the University of Edinburgh, started his career as a National Administrative Trainee with the NHS in Scotland and went on to fill various health management posts in Lothian.
Subsequently, he spent two years in information systems with ICL before moving into management consultancy with Deloitte, 15 years as a consultancy partner. During this time Robert worked across both the public and private sectors, but specialised in the public sector including extensive work in healthcare.
He retired from Deloitte in March 2010.Robert is a Fellow of the Institute of Health Management and his previous non-executive roles include being the first Chairman of the Scottish Premier League and, more recently, one of the three members appointed by the Scottish Government to the Independent Budget Review Panel.
Mr Wilson brings to this role a range of skills, including his experience of strategic change and public sector finance.The appointment will be for three years, running from April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2014.This post is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £8,008 for a time commitment of eight hours per week.
Mr Wilson does not hold any other Ministerial Appointments.NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) works at the very heart of the health service, providing national strategic support services and expert advice to NHSScotland.
NSS also play an active and crucial role in the delivery of effective healthcare to patients and the public. Their supporting role to NHSScotland means that they work closely with all their partner organisations, especially the NHS Boards, in the delivery of their services.
This Ministerial public appointment was made in accordance with the code of practice published by the Public Appointments Commissioner for Scotland.All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public. Mr Wilson has not been involved in any political activity.
