There is a spate of needlessly horrible films coming out at the moment (Saw 3D, anyone?) and, not to be outdone, Jekyll and Hyde’s regular B-Team Movie Night have something of a pre-Hallowe’en treat on 25th October.
Strictly for the strong of stomach, this week’s screening will be the controversial ‘Cannibal Holocaust’, a film that was banned in several countries on its initial 1980 release. Event organizer Robbie McKay describes it as, “a harrowing Italian cannibal nasty, renowned for its brutality.” Lovely.
The event will also feature a Q&A session with one of the movie’s stars, Francesca Ciardi. She has never appeared on the convention circuit, so this is an exclusive opportunity to meet her in the somewhat appropriate surroundings of the Crypt bar. The session should throw up some interesting questions about her experiences making a film that was promoted as a snuff movie, and was deemed so realistic that director Ruggero Deodato was arrested for her murder.
Doors are at 7pm and entry is £2 in advance or £3 on the door. Ciardi will be charging a small fee for autographs, whilst everyone in attendance will be entered into a raffle to win a Nintendo DSi. On which the winner will be expected to play nice puzzle games, not gory horror ones.
