Leaf-LineDog-loving amateur photographers can fetch an exciting prize by entering a competition to find the best photographs of people’s canine companions.

Inspired by the Family Combinations exhibition currently on show at The City Art Centre, featuring captivating images of US photographer William Wegman’s family of Weimaraners, the contest is being run by the gallery in conjunction with the Michelin award-winning The Dogs restaurant in Hanover Street.

The prize for the winning amateur photographer will be dinner for two at The Dogs, as well as the honour of having their photograph printed, framed and hung in The City Art Centre until the summer exhibitions close on 24 October, after which time they will be given the framed print to keep. They will also win free admission to The City Art Centre’s summer exhibitions.

The judging panel for the competition comprises Councillor Deidre Brock, Culture and Leisure Convenor; David Ramsden, owner of the Dogs restaurant; and Frank Little, City of Edinburgh Council Museums and Galleries Manager. Entries must be submitted no later than 3pm on Friday 1 October 2010.

Councillor Brock said: “William Wegman’s enchanting images of his Weimaraners at the City Arts Centre have certainly created a stir, and the judging panel very much look forward to seeing the photos inspired by this wonderful exhibition and awarding a lucky winner this terrific prize.”

William Wegman: Family Combinations is a witty and engaging show, devised especially for the City Art Centre and starring the world famous New York-based photographer’s family of Weimaraners.

Featuring more than 60 works, the exhibition illustrates the family tree of Wegman’s canine muse, Fay, along with her very photogenic offspring.

“Family Combinations” is William Wegman’s first ever comprehensive solo show in Scotland and the only UK opportunity to catch this exceptional photographic display.

BaxterpianostoolThe show will consist of a rich array of Polaroids, chromogenic, silver gelatin and digital prints, as well as a selection of humorous video clips – including the clips Wegman made for the hit US children’s TV show, Sesame Street.
