Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses following break-ins at a store in East Lothian and a residential property in Midlothian.

The first incident happened around 12.55am today at the Co-Operative store in Countess Crescent, Dunbar. Four men gained access to the property by smashing a window before making off with a large quantity of cigarettes into a dark-coloured car Vauxhall Astra.At around 2.50am the men were reported making off from a property in Kirkhill Terrace, Gorebridge having gained entry to a garage. A motor scooter was stolen but later recovered nearby. The Vauxhall Astra was found abandoned in the Straiton area, near to the City Bypass and police are now following a positive line of enquiry to locate the suspects.

Officers are asking for anyone who was in the area and witnessed anything suspicious to come forward. A police spokesman said: ‘Fortunately, the vast majority of stolen property has been recovered, but we are continuing with our investigation to identify and locate those responsible. ‘Anyone with information that can assist with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately.’
