A West Lothian bowler has made history at his 114-year-old Winchburgh club by becoming the first to claim four major trophies in a single season.
Stuart Blakelock captured the Club Championship, Coronation Cup, Jim Quate Bowl and Bob Bishop Trophy leaving club president David Gemmell to pay tribute, saying: “Stuart previously won the club championship 31 years ago and between then and now he did drop out of bowls for a couple of years to play golf.
“We are delighted he decided to come back as he is not only a really good player but someone we always like to skip our teams.
“That’s because Stuart is always so supportive of the younger players as well as providing them with good information.
“Now he has done something nobody has ever done before.”
And it doesn’t stop there as Stuart reached the final of the county pairs partnering Craig Moss while the Winchburgh team pushed a bigger Linlithgow club all the way in the Roseberry Cup Final before losing out by a single shot.
Added president Gemmell: “Considering we have only 40 bowlers to Linlithgow’s 100 or so that was a fine achievement and having closed our green last weekend myself, Stuart and others look forward to moving to indoor bowling and that will hopefully see him maintain his good form.”
