Jenny Young, MSP for Central Scotland and Lothians West, has asked for a meeting with Transport Secretary, Stephen Flynn, to find out whether or not The Scottish Government will provide funding for a new railway station in Winchburgh this year.
In June in the Holyrood Chamber Mr Flynn told Ms Young that the construction of a station would be the responsibility of West Lothian Council and Winchburgh Developments but that The Scottish Government would “engage with them” in that process.
West Lothian Council and Winchburgh Developments have since secured planning permission and are now waiting for The Scottish Government to commit the necessary funding.
Mr Flynn told the Holyrood Transport Committee on Wednesday that a decision on when funding could be committed was “dependent on advice” he receives from officials.
He confirmed that he expected that advice to be “imminent” – but according to Ms Young he had said the same in June, and three months later, there has been no progress.
Jenny Young said: “Despite plans for the railway station being approved we still don’t know if and when the Scottish Government will give the project the green light.
“Following my question in the chamber in June, and a letter in July, I am now seeking a meeting with Stephen Flynn to get a straight answer on when this project will get the go ahead.
“Warm words from the SNP Government mean nothing – residents in Winchburgh need action now.”
