Hibs new signing Adam Mayor believes Easter Road is the perfect place for him at this stage of his career and playing in Europe in front of big crowds attracted him to Scotland.
At just 21, he arrives in Leith with a lot of potential and experience, having made over 100 EFL appearances, and is ready to write the next chapter in his successful career so far.
The dynamic wing-back has joined the Club for an undisclosed fee following a two-and-a-half year spell at EFL Championship side Millwall, which included successful loan spells at EFL League Two sides Bromley and Cambridge United, for whom he topped the league charts for dribble success percentage (80) and crosses into the six-yard box in 2025/26.
“I’ve known [of the interest] for a few weeks now, and as soon as I heard about it, I was really interested, so I’m just happy to finally get it over the line,” Mayor said.
“It just came out of nowhere, and my agent called me and said he’d had an interesting call with Hibs, so as soon as he said that, I already knew how big the Club was and the history here, so just straight away it gave me something to think about.
“I think it’s just the different opportunities [that attracted me here].
“You’re playing in front of big crowds here at home, and you get the chance to push to play in Europe every season, so I think it’s just a different challenge and a lot of bigger opportunities as well.
“I don’t know much [about Scottish football] to be honest, but obviously I know how big the Club is, and as soon as I heard about the interest, it brought good things into my head, and it made me want to join the Club.”
Left-footed, Mayor broke through as a teenager at Morecambe and had already made over 50 appearances in the EFL for the Shrimps by the time he signed for Millwall for a hefty fee in January 2024, and was also named the North West Football Awards’ ‘Rising Star’ in 2023.
Having struggled to consolidate a regular starting spot for the Lions, Mayor enjoyed two loan spells away from Millwall, where he would gain further experience and thrive, especially with EFL League Two outfit Cambridge United in 2025/26, whom he helped secure an immediate return to the third tier.
And the new No3 also outlined what fans can expect from him during his time as a Hibs player.
He added: “I signed for Millwall almost three years ago, and I had quite a bad injury when I first went there, so I was out for a little bit and then ended up going out on loan.
“I went on loan to Bromley for the second half of the 2024/25 season, and it went quite well there, having just got back playing from the injury, and then the season after, which was last season, I went to Cambridge United on loan, which I really enjoyed, and we got promoted, so straight away off the back of a promotion it gives you a lot of confidence coming into this season to go and push yourself even more.
“That (being creative) is a big part of my game. I like to create chances, and I think no matter what, you always get one hundred percent from me. I work for the team, and as you said, I just like to try and score and create goals.
“I spoke a little bit to them (David Gray and Malky Mackay), and they sent over a few videos of the team and how the Head Coach wants to play, and straight away I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.
“It suits my game as well, playing as a wing-back, because that’s a big part of my game, running, so I can get up and down, so as soon as I heard about the plans, the team, and learnt a little bit more about the Club, it was straight away that I wanted to be a part of it.”
Mayor believes the timing of his move to the Hibs aligns perfectly with his ambitions and says there is no place he would rather be at this important stage of his career.
He said: “I think now is probably the most important time in my career to go and push myself and really get going properly, and I think I’ve picked the right Club where I can go and push on and challenge myself.
“My aim is to just go and create and score as many goals as I can, and obviously as a team we want to go and do well in Europe and finish as high as we can in the league.
“I’m really looking forward to the game this weekend. I’ve been back for a few weeks with Millwall during pre-season, so it’s going to be a big week getting to know all the lads, then hopefully playing my first game in front of the fans this weekend at Easter Road.”
