Glasgow team manager, Cami Brown, said the Allied Vehicles Tigers needed to dig deep to beat Working Comets and they did, winning 48-42 in a tough encounter at Ashfield on Friday night.
Brown’s side endured a lot of bad luck with two engine failures and lost Freddy Hodder with a knuckle injury after a nasty Heat 4 crash.
It needed a last heat decider 5-1 from Leon Flint and Kyle Howarth to secure the Cab Direct Championship points and Brown said: “Workington love Ashfield and they were excellent throughout the meeting.
“A great deal of things went against us. Leon had a bike issue in Heat 3 and Mario Hausl’s bike gave up when challenging for the lead in Heat 8. It was also a blow to lose Freddy in Heat 4.
“So it was a struggle to get the job done. Kyle and Leon were excellent all night. Everyone else chipped in and that was just enough to get the victory.

Elsewhere, Berwick Bandits were due to host Redcar Bears on Saturday but it has been postponed due to a poor weather forecast.
Stewart Dickson, Berwick’s team manager, was disappointed after Friday’s 59-31 defeat at Scunthorpe and said: “It’s a very disappointing performance after the standard we have set ourselves this season. It makes Saturday night even more important.”
Jack Smith’s best away-day in Bandits’ colours was a rare bright spot, the Stoke-based racer putting a tricky start to the season with a battling eight point return.
A lack of available guest options meant going into the meeting operating rider-replacement for Peter Kildemand and it was always going to be tough.
Berwick could ill-afford a night of mechanical gremlins for Lasse Fredriksen, who saw his bike pack up twice in races and failed to beat the two-minute allowance in a third.
Nick Morris (pictured by Keith Hamblin) with 12 points was head and shoulders Berwick’s top scorer, but even he couldn’t lower the colours of ex-Monarchs rider, Josh Pickering and Michael Palm Toft.
