Hibs Women Head Coach Joelle Murray praised her players following last night’s victory over Celtic at Meadowbank.
A penalty from Eilidh Adams and a last minute game-saving stop from Noa Schumacher meant Hibs Women rise above Grant Scott’s Hoops in the league table into fourth-place.
With a clean sheet secured en route to extending Hibs unbeaten run to nine league games, Murray praised both her side’s defensive work and attacking output – with Schumacher and Adams singled out.
“We’re absolutely delighted,” she told Hibs TV. “Of course, three points was the goal and the girls have given us that.
“I thought, in and out of possession, we were extremely good, we were disciplined and they gave us everything we asked of them.
“We asked them to come into the game in a confident mood and they certainly looked that way. So yeah, I’m absolutely delighted with the result this evening.”
“I played large spells in my career as a centre-back, so I think for me, clean sheets are the basis and the foundation of a good result, and certainly the stop at the end from Noa was outstanding.
“But all throughout the game, I thought the defence in particular were really good, disciplined in and out of possession and were extremely good on the ball when we were building.
“(Eilidh is) having a good season,” Murray continued. “And when she picked up the ball, there was a confidence in the group and the dugout because she’s been on penalty duties before.
“She was cool, calm and composed and thankfully for us, put the ball in the back of the net.”
Hibs are back on the road next midweek, on Wednesday night against Rangers at Broadwood and Murray is keen to carry recent form into that test.
“We obviously will take a lot of confidence from this evening’s game.
“We felt (the win) was a long time coming, probably felt a little bit hard done by the last time we played Celtic and I thought we were dominant tonight.
“Probably could have been a bit more clinical with some of the chances that we created but ultimately we got the one and we came away with three points which is all that matters.
“We finished the first round of the post-split fixtures with nine points out of 15 and the goal was, and always has been, to be better. So, three points tonight will stand us in good stead and just be better than the last round.
