Edinburgh has 13 new MSPs

After a long day at the Royal Highland Centre at Ingliston, the final declarations of the seven seats in the Edinburgh and Lothians East region brought proceedings in Edinburgh to a close.

There are now 13 politicians representing Edinburgh, six in the city constituencies and seven in the region.

Chief Executive of Edinburgh Council, Paul Lawrence, is also Returning Officer for the Edinburgh constituencies, and Regional Returning Officer for Edinburgh and Lothians East.

He announced all the names and numbers throughout the day, to much applause, screaming, tears and smiles.

The SNP’s Angus Robertson lost his Edinburgh Central seat, and is now out of politics again, having lost his Westminster seat previously to Douglas Ross in 2017.

Sue Webber who has represented Lothian since 2021, lost her seat amid a collapse in support for the Scottish Conservatives who have at least 11 seats in comparison with 31 seats in the last administration.

• Edinburgh Central: Lorna Jane Slater, Scottish Green Party (4,582 majority)
• Edinburgh North Eastern and Leith: Ben Macpherson, Scottish National Party (3,071 majority)
• Edinburgh North Western: Alex Cole-Hamilton, Scottish Liberal Democrats (13,016 majority)
• Edinburgh Northern: Sanne Dijkstra-Downie, Scottish Liberal Democrats (2,493 majority)
• Edinburgh South Western: Simita Kumar, Scottish National Party (3,289 majority)
• Edinburgh Southern: Daniel Guy Johnson, Scottish Labour Party (4,963 majority)
• Edinburgh and Lothians East (Region): 
• Kate Nevens – Scottish Green Party
• Angela Ross – Reform UK
• Irshad Ahmed – Scottish Labour Party
