Hibs head coach David Gray believes the 1-1 draw with Motherwell was a fair result, in what was an entertaining end to end encounter at Easter Road yesterday.

The visitors took the lead early on in the second half through Tawanda Maswanhise before Kieron Bowie equalised just before the 70-minute mark. Both sides tried to find a winner, but the game ended all square.

When speaking to Hibs TV after the game, Gray gave his thoughts on his side’s performance.

“I think a draw is probably a fair result over the piece,” admitted the Head Coach.

“We were very good at the start of the game; we were really aggressive and the best patterns of play came from us. I think the only thing lacking was that clear cut chance.

“The frustrating thing from our point of view in the game were a lot of the chances we gave away were self-inflicted. Motherwell enjoy having the ball, but they never played through us, the only real chances we gave up were on transition, and that was because of how we gave the ball away or our decision making.

“Their goal was a classic example of that; we had a chance at their end, which felt like a big chance at the time, and then to lose a goal from that is very frustrating. Motherwell are good on the transition because of the players they’ve got.

“The second half became a little too stretched at times for me, but that’s a sign of two teams going at it trying to win the game.

“We haven’t gained any ground today, but we haven’t lost any. When we conceded the first goal, it was a test of character to respond.

“Over the piece, we settle for a point in the end.”

That draw means Hibs are now unbeaten in five outings in the William Hill Premiership table.

“If you strip that period back then you say undefeated in five games – three wins, two draws – and that’s a positive,” said Gray.

“I’ve spoken a lot about squad depth, and we have been stretched; that’s not an excuse because other teams up and down the country will feel the same.

“We missed key players today, who aren’t far away from returning. During that period players have stepped up, we’ve all stuck together, and we’re certainly in a position we can build on for the rest of the season.”
