Known better for her smash hits, Edinburgh based singer songwriter Laura Silverstone is adding what she hopes will be smash knits to her range of merchandise.
Laura needed something new and different to highlight her latest single, Morning Pink, and she asked Aila Clark at New Age Granny Boutique for help. Aila is known for her range of one-off crochet pieces including hats, dresses and underwear.
With cold weather spells about to hit the UK, Laura believes that the limited edition scarves will prove popular with her fans.
Laura wrote the song Morning Pink beside a Lothian beach and took inspiration from the colours of sunrises along the east coast. The song has now been played more than 33,000 times on the artist’s YouTube channel.
Crafters’ Market meet up
Laura said: “Aila and I met in 2021, when we were both selling our art at the crafters market in Edinburgh. I already knew then that one day I’d love her to make beautiful stuff inspired by my music, and this seemed the perfect occasion.
“She is so incredibly talented, and it was unbelievably exciting for me to be collaborating with her in developing and making a range of scarves to resemble the colours of the sunrise in Morning Pink. I think they look absolutely gorgeous.
“They are 100% sustainable too which was hugely important to me. I love them, and have even kept one for myself too, because they are so cosy which is exactly what everyone needs right now with the freezing cold.
“By buying them, people can also know that each scarf helps feed two artists and brings us much happiness to be able to share our art with them. It’s also like I get to be giving a hug to my fans every time they wear one.”
New Age Granny
Aila set-up New Age Granny Boutique after being inundated with requests about her unique collections ranging from hand crocheted lighter cases, to balaclavas, crocheted earrings, skirts, tops and bras, which she models herself on Instagram.
She uses natural and upcycled fibres, yarns and charity wools, holds workshops to help inspire others to do their own, and is often seen selling her work in clubs and markets around Edinburgh.
Aila said: “Creating these one off pieces with Laura has been an absolute creative pleasure. I’m overjoyed I could help Laura’s vision for her new merch line come to life.”
Laura is currently recording her new album at Lipaka Studios near Cologne in Germany, with Grammy nominated producer Bob Vogston, and is releasing her next single ‘Raven On A Tree’, on 23 January.
Read the notes about her latest single on Laura’s Songbox: “Inspired by her journey as a neurodivergent artist learning to drop the mask and embrace vulnerability, Laura paints a sunrise picture with tender acoustic colours and quiet defiance. Morning Pink captures the calm after the storm – the moment when you realise you’re exactly where you’re meant to be.”
