Hearts are reported to be chasing former academy player Marc Leonard who is currently with Birmingham City.
The 24-year-old midfielder appears to be a target to fill the gap left by the injury to Cammy Devlin and the loss of Beni Baningime through suspension an injuries to Oisin McEntee, Ageu, and long-term Calem Nieuwenof.
Glasgow-born Leonard has come into the equation after Forest Green Rovers are understood to have rejected a move for Frenchman Laurent Mendy.
If the paperwork is done in time he come make his debut against champions Celtic at Tynecastle on Sunday (15.00) in the clash between the top two in the William Hill Premiership.
Leonard is a former Riccarton youth academy pupil who left to play in England eight years ago.
A loan deal until the end of the season is the likely option for Hearts as Leonard has not been a permanent fixture in the Birmingham City side this season.
