- 10.00 am – 5.00 pm Meeting of Additional, Housing, Homelessness and Fair Work Committee on 25/11 at 10.00 am – 5.00 pm – Dean of Guild Court Room – City Chambers. The Council is still floundering about trying to frame up what its Convention Bureau should look like – even now six years since it disbanded Marketing Edinburgh at the cost of £2 million in 2019. The council will this week consider the “positive impact of business tourism to Edinburgh” and the “importance of a Convention Bureau”. The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) team were running Convention Edinburgh but it is stated in the reports that the EICC made a decision “not to continue the guardianship of the Convention Bureau in May 2024”.
- The Edinburgh Reporter believes the decision was actually made by the council in May 2024 in the face of what they saw as unacceptable demands by the EICC. Read our account of the meeting when that decision was made.

The Story of the Christmas No 1: Mistletoe & Vinyl
In The Story of the Christmas No. 1: Mistletoe & Vinyl, award-winning author, comedian and musician Marc Burrows takes readers on a witty, deeply researched journey through this uniquely British cultural phenomenon. Tracing its rise from an afterthought to a December obsession, Burrows uncovers the stories behind the songs we love, the ones we loathe, and why the tradition may now be on life support.
With interviews from those behind the biggest festive hits, social and cultural analysis, and Burrows’ trademark humour, this book is both a nostalgic look back and a timely reflection on how the music industry—and the way we celebrate—has changed.
Meet the author at a book signing event at Blackwells Edinburgh on 26 November.
