Scotland boss Steve Clarke and midfielder John McGinn both singled out Hibs defender Grant Hanley for his ‘outstanding’ performance in last night’s 0-0 draw with Denmark.
The Scots kicked off their quest for a first World Cup appearance since 1998 earning a potentially precious point against Denmark at the Parken Stadium.
Hanley was a rock at the heart of the Scotland defence and played a significant part in the team’s clean sheet.
After the final whistle Clarke said: ‘It’s a good start for us.
‘It was a very disciplined performance, which we knew it had to be. We certainly created enough going forward as well, which was good to see.
‘We defended well. John Souttar and Grant Hanley at the back were outstanding, but you could go through the whole team.
“Even when the subs came off the bench, they all did their bit and contributed.
Former Hibs player McGinn added: ‘In the first 15 minutes, we suffered a lot.
“The effort from everyone was superb and we managed to keep a clean sheet which is brilliant.
‘It’s very easy to criticise guys like Grant Hanley – (but) he heads everything, clears everything. As a unit, the back four were outstanding.
‘Towards the end, it was about staying in the game.
“We’re managing games better the past couple of years. I thought we looked much more like a Steve Clarke team.’
