Scotland are back on home soil tonight as new Men’s Head Coach Sébastien Pocognoli prepares for his first game at the National Stadium, with the Scots hosting Switzerland.
And he is anticipating a tough test against the World Cup quarter-finalists kicked off their own UEFA Nations League campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory in North Macedonia.
Scotland took a while to get going in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia in Ljubljana, though supporters will be buoyed by the second half performance.
The positive news for Pocognoli is that his players all came through Saturday’s game unscathed, although the likes of Scott McTominay, Che Adams, Lawrence Shankland, Kenny McLean and Kieran Tierney remain absent.
Pocognoli said: “I think we had a good test in Slovenia, it’s never easy to go there. I think Switzerland faced them also and it was also not an easy game.
“After the game, we were disappointed we didn’t score but I don’t think it’s any concern from my side to score goals because we have good strikers.
“Switzerland is a very good country, a very good team. So it will be a tough opposition. It’s also fantastic to be at home against this opponent and we respect them, but from the approach to the game, we want to show that we are at home.
“We will try to be aggressive and take control of the game if we can.”
Scotland’s Lewis Ferguson: He added: “My role’s changed a lot, obviously. The manager spoke to me about that when I had a chat with him about being a little more experienced now within the squad and starting to become a leader within the group because it’s changed so much since the first camp when I came.
“I know how it feels to be one of the young ones coming in. I know what challenges that could bring. I’m there for them if there’s anything they need help with.”
