David Gray was left “frustrated” after his side drew 1-1 with St Mirren at Easter Road.

Hibs created a number of opportunities throughout the game but found themselves behind after Miguel Freckleton bundled home a second half free-kick.

But Hibs fought their way back into the game to earn a point after Rocky Bushiri sneaked the ball in at the back post.

The match was also surrounded in VAR controversy – with arguably two calls going the way of the visitors. The final call in the dying seconds looked to be a clear penalty for handball but despite a VAR check the call went in favour of the Saints.

When speaking after the game, Gray gave his thoughts on his side’s performance.

“It’s frustrating. I thought we started the game well. If we take our chances, I think it’s a very different afternoon.

“If we take those chances, it then doesn’t come down to what happened at the end of the game. We didn’t take our chances and lost a poor goal. Massive credit to the players to go right until the very end to get back into the game.

“What the players have given over the last six weeks; the level of performance and dealing with the adversity we have done takes a lot of courage.

“We’ve just reminded the players that we have to keep improving and getting better. We created opportunities in the game today, and we know if we took them, it’s a very different afternoon. We need to keep improving, but there’s a lot to be positive about as well.”

Going into the first international break of the campaign, Hibs sit third in the William Hill Premiership table with five points from three games.

Gray explained how he will utilise the next two weeks.

“We’ve got a few on international duty as well, so we wish those guys all the best and hope they come back safely.

“The ones that are here will get a bit of time off; that’s required for the players and all the staff. It’s been such a hectic schedule, so we need to make sure we come back in a better place, physically ready to go.

“The break will also give me time on the grass, something we haven’t had a lot of. We will definitely benefit from that because the last six weeks has all been about rest and recovery rather than working on areas we can improve.”
