Over 60s singing group, Vocal Vibes took to the stage at Edinburgh Street Food on Wednesday 23rd July to perform the Dolly Parton hit, 9 to 5 in support of ‘Here You Come Again’ – The New Dolly Parton Musical being at the Edinburgh Playhouse until 27th July.
This lively and touching new musical tells the story of a diehard fan whose fantasy version of international icon Dolly Parton gets him through trying times.
Wearing ‘Here You Come Again’ show t-shirts provided by the production, the 20 strong singing group treated diners to their version of the hit song, 9 to 5 to get everyone excited and ready for the show’s midweek matinee performance at the Edinburgh Playhouse.
The group themselves were then treated to seeing the show at the theatre following their performance.
The singing group was created as part of Edinburgh-based charity project, Vintage Vibes many social groups to improve wellbeing and tackle loneliness among older people (known as VIPs) in the city. Vintage Vibes builds confidence and friendships, empowering older people feeling lonely and isolated to live life to the full.
Georgia Artus, Development Manager at Vintage Vibes said: “There many wonderful parallels between the show and our fabulous singing group.
“The show tells the story of how Dolly Parton gets the lead character through trying times and teaches him about life through music, much like our fabulous singing group, who support each other through loneliness with friendship and music.
“It was a hugely fun and enjoyable experience for the Vocal Vibes group to perform for the public and we would like to thank The Edinburgh Playhouse and Edinburgh Street Food for this fabulous opportunity.”
Ashley Sutherland, Charity Committee at The Edinburgh Playhouse said: “We are over the moon to be playing a part in this wonderful collaboration.
“The theatre has always been a place which brings people together to create special memories, and we are delighted to be teaming up with Vintage Vibes on a performance at Edinburgh Street Food to bring joy to audiences ahead of their theatre trip, collaborate on creating a stage for their wonderful over 60s singing group, Vocal Vibes, and to let Edinburgh know that there’s a brand-new, must-see Dolly Parton musical in town!”
