Richard Lucas is standing in the Westminster General Election for the Scottish Family Party.

He is the leader of the party and while he has stood before in other elections he said the main aim is not to be elected to Westminster but to Holyrood.

Mr Lucas explained that their main policies are to support the family, that he does not believe in same sex marriage or assisted dying and the members of the party are pro-life.

While the party has clear views on these topics with regard to others such as taxation their views are less defined. He said: “On some of the classic left/right issues, we try and stay neutral. And we want to unite people who agree with us rather than divide them into right and left. So our policies on taxation are generally focused around a fair deal for families, in particular enabling families, if they want to have one parent at home with the kids and the other parent working. The current UK and Scottish Government -their mission is to just make it impossible for families to do that. They want to pressurise families into having both parents working.”

And while he agrees that it is acceptable to have civil partnerships, the party is opposed to any dilution of what they regard as the ideal family. He said: “The Scottish Family Party’s policy is against same sex marriage for a number of reasons. One of which is that we believe that the purpose of marriage is to bind together a man or woman so they can bring up their own natural children. We think that’s best for children. We think same sex marriage dilutes that ideal.”

Asking why the party is standing up for views which are in 2024 no longer mainstream he replied: “We’re standing up for what’s right, and we’re thinking about saving lives here, thinking about the unborn. And particularly, as far as I’m concerned, there can’t be a more grave moral issue than the fact that the government kills 16,000 humans each year.” When questioned over this last figure Mr Lucas explained that is the number of abortions which the NHS facilitates each year.
