Nick Montgomery’s disappointing tenure as Hibs manager came to an end after a lackluster performance saw his team demolished 4-0 by Aberdeen at home.

Montgomery’s appointment had been met with a murmur of excitement following his A-League success, guiding the Central Coast Mariners to the 2023 Championship. However, results did not follow at Easter Road and a bottom-half finish after the split signalled the end of his eight-month stay in Edinburgh.

As the season nears its end with no threat of relegation, Hibs fans will be eagerly looking ahead to next season and wondering who will lead their team. Supporters will be on the lookout for the best betting offers in the UK as bookmakers hastily prepare odds for the next manager.

Betting expert Ian Bruce explains that all online bookmakers in the UK offer football betting markets because of its popularity and there are often promotions, bonuses, and enhanced odds available to entice new customers.

The club moved quickly to announce the appointment of Malky Mackay in the sporting director role, his first big task will be leading the appointment of the club’s next head coach.

The bookmakers’ clear favourite for the role is Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes. McInnes has a strong SPL pedigree having managed St Johnstone and Aberdeen before joining Kilmarnock in 2022.

This season he has transformed the Ayrshire club into a formidable outfit, achieving an impressive 4th place finish and guaranteeing Europa League action.

McInnes is contracted to Kilmarnock until 2026 which would mean Hibs would have to pay compensation. However, this would be seen as a worthwhile long-term investment in a manager who has the ability to turn things around.

The second favourite for the Hibs manager job is David Gray. Gray has been appointed the interim manager for the fourth time in his coaching career. He has coached at Hibs since he retired from playing after seven seasons in Edinburgh in 2021.

The fan favourite has stepped up every year since he began coaching and his loyalty could be rewarded if he can transform the team on the pitch.

Despite his history of managing the club on a temporary basis, it would still be seen as a risk for a rookie manager when the club is desperate for stability.

As with almost any available job in the SPL, Neil Lennon has been linked. His history with Hibs saw him gain promotion and guide the team to European football. However, he was suspended and left the club shortly after despite no disciplinary process beginning.

Other names being linked with the job include St Mirren’s Stephen Robinson, Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill, and Alex Neil.

This could prove to be an exciting time for Hibs fans and those looking for markets can explore a variety of online betting options here. Mackay’s appointment shows clear intent and direction from the board who are desperate to start building a legacy following the revolving door that has seen Paul Heckingbottom, Jack Ross, Shaun Maloney, Lee Johnson, and Nick Montgomery all sacked in the last five years.

The club will want to have someone installed in time to assess the current crop of players, make any necessary changes, and start coaching in time for next season.
