Tennis coach Calum Meston is stepping up his efforts on behalf of the DoddieAid MND charity with an unsupported cycle from Edinburgh Castle to the Rome Colosseum.

Portobello-based Callum is due to leave on 29 July and hopes to reach the Eternal City on 18 August.

He said: “For the last couple of years I’ve been an active participant for DoddieAid (named in memory of the former Scotland and Lions rugby star Doddie Weir who died of Motor Neuron Disease in 2022).

“This year I plan the longest time I’ll have spent sitting down in my life and will focus on gripping handle bars rather than a tennis racquet.”

Calum’s ride will cover approximately 1,700 miles and includes close to 87,500 feet of climbing which is three times the height of Mount Everest.

He aims to raise £5,000 for the charity.
