With news leaking that Liverpool’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham is at an end, it sparks a question over who their transfer targets will be this summer. The Reds have suffered a below-par season so far, and it’s looking likely that they will fail to qualify for the Champions League.
It’s clear that a major rebuild is needed at Liverpool, particularly in midfield, but it’s not entirely plain who their major targets will be. Jurgen Klopp will be keen to get some bodies in over the summer to try and revive Liverpool as contenders for major honours.
As the season draws towards a close, let’s take a look at a few potential transfer targets that have been thrown around in the football betting, and analyse if they’d be a good fit at Anfield.

Alexis Mac Allister

Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is a man in high demand. The Argentina international’s performances at the World Cup have ensured he has a long list of suitors, with Liverpool reportedly among them.
The 24-year-old has plenty of Premier League experience already, and would be a good attacking addition to Liverpool’s squad. He’s someone with the ability to pick a pass and get in the right attacking areas, which is something Liverpool have been lacking in midfield for a while.

Moises Caicedo

Another Brighton player attracting plenty of interest is Moises Caicedo. The Ecuador international signed a new contract earlier in the season, but there’s still expected to be a flurry of bids this season.
A deeper-lying midfielder than Mac Allister, Caicedo has the ability to break up play and provide quality defensive cover, as well as getting forward when necessary.

Ryan Gravenberch

Another interesting potential target is Ryan Gravenberch. The midfielder has fallen out of favour somewhat at Bayern Munich, but he is still highly rated and is suspected to be near the top of Klopp’s wishlist.
Gravenberch is just 20 years of age, and fits the profile of young players who have high potential and can be improved under Klopp. His playing style would suit Liverpool, and it would be good for supporters to have a young midfielder they can truly be excited by.

Matheus Nunes

It’s widely acknowledged that Klopp is a big admirer of Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes. The Portuguese international has enjoyed a solid debut campaign in the Premier League, and would bring plenty of quality to Liverpool’s midfield.
He is another who has the potential to improve massively under Klopp, and it would be interesting to see if he could handle the move to one of Europe’s biggest club. Wolves will be keen to keep hold of Nunes having only signed him last summer, so Liverpool may need to offer a sizeable sum despite a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave Molineux.

Nicolo Barella

It’s fair to say that Nicolo Barella is the player on this list who would bring the greatest immediate improvement to Liverpool’s midfield. A Serie A winner with Inter Milan, the Italian is a quality player who has the ability to get forward and dictate play.
It would probably take a significant offer to prise Barella away from Inter, but if Liverpool are serious about rebuilding their team, these are the kinds of players they’ll need to aim for.
