Name Andrew Brough

Political Party Scottish Green Party

Ward Almond

I have lived in Edinburgh since 2002. I have work for various public bodies, the BBC, as a Civil Servant, and currently for a private company supplying back of office services to a  Government since 2007.

What are the main issues you will campaign on – both as a party and personally?

Obviously we want to tackle the climate emergency and make Edinburgh a sustainable place to live and work in.

On a personal level as an ex-chair of a local Community Council I would if elected work towards increasing local democracy in Edinburgh, engaging with and working with the council for better outcomes across local communities in Edinburgh.

With Greens in Government and more Councillors in 2022 hopefully we can help implement a cleaner, greener Edinburgh – but also on making health and social care work properly for our citizens.

I’m keen on making transportation work much better across the city with a balance of active travel, less motor vehicles, and low traffic neighbourhoods. I would help to increase the size of the  low emission zone for clean air and healthier citizens to live and breath easy in the city they call home.

What do you consider to be your or your party’s achievements or legacy during the last council session?

During the last five years there has been a diverse range of wins that Greens can rightly be  proud of. One that stands out for me is the work done on our Edinburgh housing crisis and short term lets.

The Green councillor group has put in many hours of work to push the council to take a much tougher stand. This has resulted in stronger planning enforcement on current applications, retrospective enforcement on full flat short term lets on shared stairs too.

All coming towards licensing and control areas across Edinburgh as a whole in the near future hopefully.

What is the thing that few people would know about you?

I used to work as a professional photographer for a police force in England – so have helped put quite a few people behind bars based on evidence I’ve photographed.
