Major speedway is booked into Scotland next year with Glasgow Tigers hosting an FIM Grand Prix Qualifier at Ashfield.

Tigers were in line to stage the event this year but all World Championship qualifying rounds were cancelled due to COVID-19, with riders seeded directly to the GP Challenge.

The date is May 29 with the other three qualifiers taking place in Germany, France and Croatia in the build-up to the Challenge in Slovakia in August.

Alan Dick, Glasgow’s co-promoter, said: “After the disappointment of the 2020 campaign in which an SGP World Championship Qualifier was lost due to the pandemic, it was gratifying to hear that the FIM event will return to the city in 2021.

“Supporters will be in for an absolute treat on Saturday, May 29 when some of the World’s leading and top up-and-coming riders will head to Glasgow, just as they did in 2019 for a meeting which attracted a bumper crowd from all over the UK.

“May 29 is still six months away, but the planning will soon be underway for what is sure to be a highlight of the UK speedway racing season.”
