Disappointed Edinburgh Monarchs’ team manager, John Campbell, saw his men stung 61-29 at play-off chasing Scunthorpe Scorpions in their penultimate league match of the season.

Frustrated Campbell admitted: “We were beaten by the far, far better team on the night.”

Scorpions knew a win in this Cab Direct Championship clash would guarantee their play-off spot and heat advantages in each of the first three races provided a platform.

Campbell added: “They (Scunthorpe) had something to go for, but that doesn’t take away from how disappointing a night it was.”

A Monarchs spokesman said: “Only three heat wins on the night, coupled with 13 last places, showed the meekness of the challenge put up by the Monarchs.”

Former Monarchs racer, Josh Pickering (pictured in the pits at Armadale), scored 13 points and collected a bonus in the win with Michael Palm Toft top scoring with 15 points.

Scunthorpe: Pickering 13+1, Mountain 7+1, Jenkins 9+3, Palm Toft 15, Harrison 7+1, Ingram 6+2, Ablitt 4+1

Edinburgh: Thompson 10, Grahn 2, Sedgmen 3+1, Castagna 2, Thomson 8, Cluff 0, Loftus 4+1
