The First Minister has announced today’s figures at a media briefing from St Andrew’s House.

She does so in the full glare of a Westminster SNP MP, Margaret Ferrier, (Rutherglen and Hamilton West) who Brooke the rules. Ferrier travelled to London by train earlier this week knowing she had Covid-19 symptoms, having taken a test (but not yet having the result) and then appeared at Westminster in a parliamentary debate before travelling back to Glasgow on a train when she had a positive result to the Covid-19 test. The SNP has withdrawn the whip, but Ferrier has not yet resigned as an MP, although she has contacted the police to report herself. She has also reported herself to the Standards Commission.

The First Minister said today she has made it crystal clear to the MP that she should stand down. She was briefed on the MP’s behaviour after First Minister’s Questions on Thursday.

Today 775 new cases of Covid-19 have been reported which is 12.6% of those newly tested. Sadly four people have died in the last 24 hours which by that measure takes the total number of deaths in Scotland to 2,526.

There are 164 new cases in NHS Lothian. The total number of positive cases in Scotland rises to 30,687.

There are 175 patients in hospital and 19 patients in intensive care
