Detectives are appealing for information after a 55-year-old man was attacked in the doorway of his home in Ravenscroft Street around 1.45am on Saturday morning.

He suffered serious injury and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment, where he remains in a stable condition.

Police are treating the incident as an attempted murder.

Detective Sergeant Steven Gray of Gayfield CID said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing into the attempted murder and officers are currently carrying out enquiries in the local area, and checking CCTV footage to gather more information.

“I would urge anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the incident and may have seen the man, or anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.

“This is believed to have been an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the general public.”
