The ferris wheel which was put up in Portobello over the last few days will not be opening tonight or anytime soon as the council has suspended its licence.

Whether or not that also means the wheel has to be removed is not known, but the operator cannot open it.

In any case, The Scottish government made it clear that any travelling or static funfairs do not yet have the green light. That position will be reviewed on 20 August with a view to opening on 24 August.

Cllr Kate Campbell said: “I’m very pleased that council officers have acted swiftly and that the license is now suspended. The guidance is clear and funfairs are not allowed to operate now. This is a public safety issue and residents will be very relieved to hear that it won’t be operating.”
