Edinburgh’s first ever contactless open-air market opens today in Stockbridge.
The Neighbourgood Market located in the grounds of The Grange Club is a new street food and restaurant offering in the open-air. The cricket ground in Stockbridge will provide a safe area for local businesses and traders to sell their products.
It is hoped by organisers that this will provide an avenue for local businesses to get up and running post lockdown.
The family friendly market sits on a section of the grounds at The Grange Club with dedicated access via Portgower Place.
The market has attracted some popular Edinburgh based brands, including Bross Bagels, Mana Poke Bowls, Mimis Bakery, Brew Lab, Innis and Gunn and Edinburgh Gin. Other vendors on site include Casa Roble, Lucas Ice Cream, The Peruvian, Screaming Peacock, Rost, Mint, Caravan of Courage, Don’t Tell Mama, Lost Orchards, Good Brothers Wine Bar and Prosecco Boys.
Tribe Yoga will also be hosting a range of outdoor classes on site as soon as permitted.
The idea is that you buy your food through Izettle and Deliver and so it is a contactless ordering and payment system.
Deliveroo Growth Manager Scotland, Koen Feyen said: “Deliveroo is proud to support ‘The Neighbourhood Market’, bringing together independent traders in a unique outdoor experience that has been designed around the safety of customers, whilst supporting local community traders serving up incredible food. We are providing an ordering service at the event free of charge, enabling traders to drive sales through delivery, even when unlucky with the weather.”
“We have also introduced ‘skip the queue with Deliveroo’ to help keep customers safe and ensure social distancing. Our aim is to help restaurants attract customers and drive sales, so as many people as possible can enjoy the restaurant’s amazing meals at The Neighbourhood Market.”
There is a one-way demarcated walkway with specially signed circular seating zones for groups of up to five people. There are toilet facilities on site managed in accordance with Scottish Government guidelines.
The people behind The Neighbourgood Market concept, Preston Mommsen and Edward Wilson, said: “We are really excited to bring this fresh and uplifting concept to the Stockbridge and wider Edinburgh community. There’s no doubt that it’s been a tough few months for everyone during lockdown – we’re delighted that we are now able to provide a vibrant platform for people to socialise safely once again, all while enjoying some of Edinburgh’s finest food and drink offering.”
The Neighbourgood Market will run weekly until the end of August, Wednesday to Sunday and starts today, Wednesday 15th of July. The trading hours will be 12:00pm until 19:00pm.
