The A720 Edinburgh City Bypass will be closed between Millerhill junction and the Old Craighall roundabout from 21:00 until 05:00 overnight tonight, 20 July 2020.
This is to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company Amey to renew road markings and carry out essential repairs to the road surface.
A full closure of the Old Craighall roundabout will be in place with traffic diverted along signed diversion routes:
- Traffic on the A1 wishing to join the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass will be diverted via Wallyford junction, the A6094 and the A68 to join the A720 at Millerhill junction.
- Traffic travelling on the A720 towards the A1 will be diverted along the same route, in reverse.
A spokesman for Amey said: “These essential works will improve safety and journey time reliability are intended to reduce overall maintenance costs by mitigating the need for further reactive repairs.
“The safety of workers remains a top priority during this essential maintenance project. Physical distancing protocols, in line with Scottish Government guidance, will be in place to ensure all on-site personnel remain safe throughout the duration of the project. Thorough risk assessments will be carried out and cleansing stations will be implemented on site.”
Transport Scotland and Amey say they fully recognise the importance of a safe and reliable trunk road network, particularly during the Covid-19 outbreak, and it is vital that essential maintenance works are carried out in order to maintain the integrity and safety of these routes.
A number of maintenance projects have been identified as essential and will be prioritised over the coming weeks.
