An exciting range of street dance classes and workshops has been brought to Ocean Terminal with the opening of a new dance studio by popular Edinburgh Hip Hop dance organisation ‘House of Jack’.

The new studio is run by award-winning dancer and choreographer Ashley Jack and her business partner Becky Enoch.

The new dance studio opened at Ocean Terminal earlier this month

Following two years of incredible growth, House of Jack’s new studio creates a fun and friendly environment for anyone wanting to pick up some of the latest dance moves. The studio focuses on urban and street dance whilst also offering many more styles in regular or pop-up classes. Classes welcome those of all levels of ability, starting from Primary 1 to adults of all ages.

Children can take part without any previous experience and may progress to performing in the youth companies.

Ocean Terminal Manager, Dennis Jones said: “House of Jack is a great addition to Ocean Terminal. We all need to exercise more these days and if the gym doesn’t float your boat, then the high impact music and dance moves coming from House of Jack will certainly have your toes tapping and wanting to join in.

“Ashley and her team are a great new addition not just to the centre, but also the local community and we look forward to showcasing some of the performances in Ocean Terminal later this year.”

The studio embraces the creative development available to dancers in Edinburgh, through active youth companies, teaching and performance opportunities, workshops with renowned visiting dancers, and events to build the street dance community, such as the annual ‘Rock What You Got’ battle.

Their Christmas Show at Churchill Theatre sold out

House of Jack Director, Ashley Jack said: “Ocean Terminal is the perfect home for the studio. Our calendar is filling up with regular classes, workshops and events for the year, and we are already attracting lots of new budding dancers to join in the fun.

“We’re looking forward to another exciting year and if 2019 was anything to go by we’ll take 2020 by storm. Impressive highlights from last year included The List Hot 100 party, providing dancers for The Guardian’s top UK dance show of 2019, ‘Hard to Be Soft’ and choreographing and performing on the Festival Theatre stage.”

The studio is also available for dancers to hire as a rehearsal space. With its sound system and disco lights, it can also be used for kids’ parties, hen parties, and other events needing a large studio space.
